its probably time for a service. Many run for the first x amount of years then get clogged with dirt. people think clocks run forever without a service. how long would your car run without a service?

Generally, clocks should be oiled every 1 to 3 years, and cleaned every 3 to 5 years (certain conditions may warrant less time between cleaning/oiling). While the movement may have been purchased a year ago, it was definately manufactured previous to that (and may be in need of either a cleaning and/or oiling). In most instances, a cleaning/oiling takes care of many problems, and is a good place to start troubleshooting. As a side note, you can also contact one of our mechanical movement technicians to run the problem by them and see what they would suggest (as I am, by no means, an expert).

Yes-Some replacement mechanisms I bought brand new were dirty!!
This is only from a certain manufacturer so not all are the same but a very popular make.
I could be wrong - without actually looking at it I cannot guarantee my opinions. If you could see into the mechanism you may be able to see a little dirt in the wheels where they mesh.
