15 year old Ridgeway Grandfather clock

The weights are in the right location, but recently the clock just stopped running. Is it possible, like a watch, that if it's wound up too much, that it can stop?

My girlfriend brought the weights to the top, but it only ran for about 30 minutes before it stopped working.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

you can not overwind, but the clock probably needs a cleaning, and an oiling.
