Post subject: Age of clocks .....and value ?
I have an 8 foot tall grandfather clock with handcarved spindles and handcarved top piece and handcarving on the base...floral design.
It has the original beveled 8 piece glass front and orginal clock face glass.
It says Kobold on the clock mechansim and the chime mount.
The weights and pendiluim match the design on the clock face.
it's in good shape ( with a little bit of ding on the bottom of the case...where the laminate has peeled or chipped away....about a 2 inch scar.
It is a dark reddish wood...may be due to stain color
It still runs but needs a tune up...( oiled and balanced.etc..and I think one of the springs is stuck )
I don't want to sell it...it's been in family forever....but I'm facing several surgeries and have to come up with some of the cost myself before they will operate....( I hate the US medical system ) ( I need at least 2000)
I've been scouring the web but all I'm finding is the new ugly grandfather clocks...and can't find any information on Kobolds at all.
I want to put it on Craigs list but I need to know the age and what I can get for it.
I also have a mantle clock...made of a heavy black stone with a pewter sheep herder lady ( or milk maid ) on top....it has some reddish stone inlays along the clock face.
This what I got off the clock...
vincente mldaille dargent 1855 and a c.
It also has peweter clawed feet and a pewter lions head with ring in it's mouth on each side of the clock.
Is the 1855 the date it was made ?
This one is not for sale...I'm just curious . ( and yes it still works )
I have several more to ask about.( 2 wall clocks...a westminster mantle clock etc )..none are for sale..but I'm going to borrow my neighbors digital camera and see if I can add attachments to these posts.
I'm just really curious on dates, wood types, value ( especailly for insurance reasons.
And like I said if it wasn't for the surgey I wouldn't sell the grandfather clock.
But if you don't have your health you don't have anything.....
All of my clocks and antiques are in their original condition...no refinishing...just plenty of oil and love.
I'm really going to miss that clock....My neighbors would occasionaly stop by and listen to them all chime on the hour.
Especially the westminister mantle....man that thing sounds sweet !
thanks in advance
