...and I'd like to repair it if it's not too expensive. The movement looks like this:

It says "Tochigi Tokei" (among other things), but I don't see a model number.

Does anyone know how/where I'd get a replacement? Thanks.

I am willing to bet that any type of standard size quartz movement would work fine. You will just need to take a measurement of the threaded shaft portion of the center shaft (length). This will become a reference for "maximum dial thickness" when finding a comparable movement. Movements such as #10002 (for example) would probably be a suitable replacement. There are other movement of similar size that have other options (ex: continuous sweep second hand, High torque for larger clock faces, etc). If it does not have a threaded shaft, then look into the movements with push-on hands.

Thank you for the reply, Chris. The shaft is indeed threaded. It appears to be about 5/16" in diameter. Can you give me any more information on this 10002 movement you mention? I'm totally new to this (in case that's not obvious).

Thanks for the help.

here's a picture of the other side:

The threaded portion of the stem (if that's the right word) is about 3/4".

The #10002 was just a general suggestion from the entire grouping of (Q80) movements with varying threaded shaft lengths. Based on the second photo and dimensional information supplied, I would specifically recommend a #10004 or a #10165 for replacement. The only difference between the two is that one is an American made movement ($5.25) where as the other is an Asian movement ($4.75). Side note: The #10004 is the Asian movement. There is really no difference between either movement and both include our 10 year warranty.

Both movements recommended would have a 5/16" diameter threaded shaft portion (with a length of 3/4"). Both movements measure about 2-1/4" square (overall), with a 5/8" depth. Your existing hands may work on the replacement movement, however hands are free with purchase of a movement (so I would suggest ordering a second set of hands similar to your existing hands, or a hand of your own preference). When measuring hand length, refer to the length of the minute (longer) hand. Measure the hand from the very center of the mount hole to the end to determine minute hand length.

Hardware for the movement will be inlcuded, so just the movement and hands are all you need to be concerned with.

Thanks again for the information, Chris. When you say "we," are you referring to the Klockit company?

Also, I think I might go with the 10164 instead. My dial thickness is less than .30" so I don't think I need all that shaft sticking out.

I might as well replace the second hand, too. Is there a way to tell which of them on the site are compatible with this movement?

Thanks.

PS: another question: a friend of mine saw me looking at your web site, and he wants to get into the act. He needs a 10046. The problem is, he needs fairly long hands, and the "A" hand doesn't seem to be available currently (it's not selectable on your page). Is it just out of stock?

Thanks...we'll get an order in soon.

Hello - - Yes, "we" would reference the Klockit company (proud sponsor of this forum). Glad to see that you have worked out a suitable replacement. In regard to second hand sweeps, the 10164 would require you to select a sweep from the group "A" listing. #68105 would be a member of the "A" group selection (so you can search under this stock number to bring up the entire grouping).

In regard to your friend - - The "A" hour and minute hand set (if I am correct in my assumption of his/her hand selection) does not appear to be available in black any longer. It is available in brass (#67970) - to the best of my knowledge. As a side note: If your friend requires a minute hand length of 7" or more (from the center of the mount hub to the end of the hand), then I would recommend a high torque movement (which has a separate selection of hands in varying lengths over 7").

Hi, Chris –

The 10046 really reduces the choice of hands, so we decided to go with the 10166 (I checked the dial to make sure it'd work). Placed an order just now. Thanks again for all the help.
