I have just lost my mother-in-law and my husband has been sorting out her belongings, one of which is left over from my father-in-law who made and restored clocks in his spare time. It is a black marble clock, with white and brown speckled marble inlay on it's roof, so to speak and also 2 attached pillars to the front of the clock, at the midday point it has S on the left, as you look at it, and F on the right. Can anyone give me any information on it, as to how to get it back on the correct time, it is currently striking an hour behind, and also how many times i need to wind it up, once a day, week, month? If a picture is needed to identify it then i can provide one, when i have taken it!

Any help gratefully received.
Thank you.

The S and F, is the hole for the narrow end of the key to make the clock go faster or slower. I would move the hour hand back one hour after it strikes the hour, then when the next hour comes see how fast or slow it is going, if slow turn the key a 1/4 of a turn to the F, if fast then move to the S.

These are usually 8 day clocks. Wind it up, so that it is hard to turn, or until it won't turn anymore (gently).
