I have an Ansonia Mantle clock with a pendulum movement. At 12 there is a metal pin that sticks out. The winding key has 2 ends. One end to wind the clock up & the chimes and the other end fits this metal pin that sticks out. Can anyone let me know what this is for please.

Thanks

The "metal pin" at 12 o'clock is the arbor for the fast/slow adjustment. Turning it in one direction lengthens the pendulum rod and slows the clock down. Turning it the opposite way will speed the clock up. As always note the number of turns you make and then observe the results over 24-48 hours before making any further adjustments if needed. It is usually best to make time keeping adjustments when the clock is fully wound. Some older clocks have a natural tendency to slow down towards the end of the week as the springs unwind and lose tension.
