My dad gave me a 200 year old Grandfather's clock, ran fine for 200 years until I got my hands on it. Was running fine until the weights fell and the pendulum fell off. I put it back together and it runs, but only for an hour or two. Seems to always stop with the minute hand in the same place. Any ideas on what is wrong and how to fix would be appreciated. Paul

going to be impossible to tell you whats wrong without someone looking at it. something 200 years old will surely need a service anyway - could be worn out.

I determined that it was stopping right before the hourly bell - a bit of resistance. The pendulum was not swinging in sinc so I put a shim under the face to make pendulum sinc a little better. It has now been running 11 hours. Fingers crossed.

Make sure the hands do not touch each other when they pass. Have you leveled and plumbed the case and made sure the movement is in its base straight and even and square? Always a problem after being dropped/damaged.
