Post subject: Atomic clock on silicon chip, is it possible ???
Just came across this website www.d4-ac.com
These guys are saying they can deliever atomic clock on chip for a vary low price.
Is it possible at all ???
To my knowledge, atomic clocks are much bigger and most of all much more expensive !!!

Here's the thing about movements labeled as atomic clocks... They are not really atomic. They are basically radio recievers (RC) which latch on to various Atomic time signals broadcast by governments (USA, GERMANY, JAPAN, etc). The manufacturer of the D4 states that they use "solid state material" to "aquire a highly accurate clock signal". This makes me think that it is more or less a glorified radio reciever (rather than a real atomic clock). If this is the case, then the D4 is no different than any commercially available RC (Atomic) clock movement... It's just smaller than anything available on the market...

Well, after I saw your post I reached these guys by email (through the website). They said they do not use any broadcast atomic clock or any other external source in their product, andthat the atomic resonance is achieved through a solid state material. Also they mentioned that a working prototype will be available in the near future.
