Post subject: balance spring for Hermle 130-070
Hi,. I'm new to this forum and new(ish) to clock repair, being limited to pendulum movements.
I have been given a clock with one of these movements in it to look at. It wouldn't run at all and I found that someone had tried to shorten the spring by putting a sharp 'S' into it at the point that it was anchored to the chassis. This caused the spring to be pushed off centre and the coils to bind. I have removed the pin holding the spring end and straightened the spring and tried to get a curve to it but am having trouble getting the spring to centre properly. when I do the 'tick' is uneven (like a pendulum clock which isn't level). I had to loosen the balance wheel carrier plate to remove the pin. Could this have an effect on the 'tick'? I have emailed Hermle in Germany to see if I can get another spring/balance wheel. Will I need to do this to resurrect the clock? I believe this clock to have been put in for repair previously as it was continuosly running slow.
Any advice will be gratefully received.

Klockit carries that particular Hermle movement (it would be our #13018). I would suggest contacting our mechanical technician to see if she may have the part available (1-800-556-2548 or 1-800-556-6474). She may even be able to make some suggestions in regard to repair. Hope this helps...

I'm not sure yet if you would be wasting money on a spring.
I say this because these models suffer wear on the barrels and movement.
The mainsprings also tire over time and will be weak. If you spend on a single part and don't address the wear and possible mainsprings it will never go correctly anyway.
Most repairers now replace the WHOLE mechanism as this is more cost-effective and will be for you I reckon.
Look at the back plate and you will see numbers such as 86 or a letter. This denotes the year it was made.
