Post subject: Can I replace a noisy clock mechanism?
I recently found a decorative clock on a trip abroad. It fits well in an odd space in my kitchen. It is an expensive battery operated clock set in a decorative frame. The problem is it is so noisy--can I replace the movement with something quieter? Or do you have another suggestion?

generally battery clocks are not noisy. Does it have a seconds hand, this could be the source.
In general it is an easy replacement, you may not be able to use the original hands.

You could look into replacing the movement with a continuous sweep style movement. Generally quartz movements may have two options in regard to the second hand sweep:
1.) The "step" sweep second hand (which does have the characteristic "tick" sound as the second hand briefly pauses to mark each second to the observer. In some instances, wood cases/frames can amplify this sound.)
2.) The "continuous" sweep second hand (in which the sweep travels around the clock face in one continuous motion, making it much quieter.)

Continuous sweep movements come in a high torque option if you should have a minute hand that is larger than 7" in length (from the center of the hand mount mounting hole to the end of the hand). They can also be converted to a pendulum style movement, with a pendulum drive unit, if the need should be. Sorry - No chiming options at this time...
