Post subject: Can this movement be adjusted, sped up?
Hi folks; first time poster...
I have a mantle clock with a Hamilton movement. It runs slow, about ten minutes a day. Can it be adjusted to run faster?
The markings are: 84
HAMILTON
TWO (2) JEWELS
UNADJUSTEI
MADE IN W. GERMANY
1050-020
Any help will be greatly appreciated...

The model number 1050-020 seems to match that of our Hermle movement #13007. It is my hope that Hermle produced movements for Hamilton. If so, then you can locate the regulating screw (it should be beside the balance spring at the rear, top of the movement and may have a "+/-" marking directly below the regulating screw). One full turn of this screw is equal to about 60-80 seconds per day. If the clock is loosing time, turn the screw in the positive (+) direction to adjust. If it is gaining time, turn the screw in the negative (-) direction. I would experiment with a 1/4 turn or less in the positive direction initially. After making the adjustment, allow the clock to run for 24 hours. After 24 hours, take note of any time gain or loss and make another adjustment. Always allow 24 hours in between adjustments (so that you can see how much time is gained or lost in a 24 hour period). This adjustment is a trial and error process that may take a few days. Hopefully, if this is the correct movement cross reference, this will help...

Thanks for the reply Chris.
Cannot find a regulating screw. There is, stamped on the back plate, a large + to the right of the indexing fork/balance wheel and a - to the left. Is it possible that the adjustment is from the top, front or side so that the movement must be removed from the case?

Perhaps this is not a Hermle movement (of which my general movement knowledge encompasses). Have you looked into a repair person in your area? They might be able to provide a little bit more information or free advice. Other forum patrons may also be able to provide a bit more insight...

it may be you have an older type balance that has 'dots' and a 'pointer' on the balance itself.
