On a Strausberg Manor Regulator 31 day clock, with two key holes. Is there a way to turn off the chimes without stopping the clock?

While this may not be the best method of silencing a mechanical movement, you could always consider the possibility of a careful bend adjustment to the chime hammer(s). By slightly moving hammer(s) away from the chimes (chime rods, coil gong, etc), you can decrease the volume of your movement chime. It is even possible to bend the hammer(s) so that the hammer(s) never make contact with the chimes (in effect, silencing the movement from chiming).

I recommend this as a "last option", only if you are unable to find any other way to silence your movement. Also, before making any adjustments - - You will want to ensure that that the new hammer position would be readily accommodating within the case (if allowed to swing without hitting the chimes).

One last note: There are many knowledgeable and experienced patrons of this forum. Give this question a few days for any further possible replies. Somebody may have an easier method of silencing/quieting the movement.
