Just bought a mini-quartz movement for a wooden clock I have built. Followed the instructions provided in your tutorial online. My difficulty is that the spade hour hand is not able to fit on the tapered shaft because there is a knurled brass nut on the end that is just below the "I" shaft. It appears to me that this brass nut needs to come off before the hour hand can slide on for its friction fit.

This knurled brass nut is not the same as the brass end nut that is used in lieu of the second hand.

Is there a way to remove the brass knurled nut so I can slide the hour hand on and then replace it for the minute hand?

Unfortunately you posted this in the 'mechanical' section but just unscrew the nut.
