Post subject: Chime block mystery
I'm converting a quartz mantle clock to a mechanical one. The movement I am using is a Hermle 340-020. I acquired a chime block assembly from Klockit. It mounts on the front of the case. I got everything all lined up and walla...it chimes backwards. It turns out that the rods are reversed meaning that the long rod is where the short one should be and vice-versa. Yes, I do have the hammers at the block end of the rods. Every block I've seen on the internet seems to be the same way even if it's the type that mounts to the bottom of the case. I attempted to reverse the rods but since they are pressed in it's very difficult and I ended up breaking one of the rods so now I'm really frustrated. I have another mantle clock with the same movement and it does have the rods in the correct order. The long rod should be toward the front. Anybody have any ideas on this???

Unfortunately, ther is nothing to be done about your current chime block. Cheaper to get another one. EBAY has chime blocks specificaly for your movement. Just type in 340-020 movement and they will come up. They cost $20.00 plus ship. Or just make sure to find one that has the screw in tips instead of the press in.
