Post subject: Chimes Will Not Work
Hello everybody, here's my problem: I own a Ridgeway Grandmother clock with an "E" Movement. the clock was manufactured on or around 1968. The chimes were working just fine, until I roared past the quarter hours and did not allow the clock to complete its chime cycle. Now, both the chimes and the strike are not working, and both weights are not dropping. Any suggestions as to what I can do to fix my problem would be greatly appreciated.

Old clock mechanisms are funny. Things can be worn, but the clock will continue to tick away until disturbed. If you had not serviced the clock at regular intervals, then it is a good assumption that things were probably worn to begin with. This means that it is entirely possible that rotating the hands (while in the chime cycle) was only the catalyst that set off a previous underlying problem.
Ultimately, this sounds like a job for a qualified repair person... I would have the clock mechanism looked at (at least for a repair quote).
