I did secure the second hand with the open nut only because the previous movement that was used before i aquired the clock was attached with the open nut but there was also the cap nut so i just assumed that they were both suppose to be used. So if i remove the open nut I should be able to just attach the minute hand with the cap nut and not need the open nut supplied with this new movement as well? If that is the case that should solve my problem! Thanks again!

I just can't believe how vague the directions for installing the movement were. They left out a lot of minor but very important details for adjusting the strike and when to use the open nut vs. the cap screw etc. I'm very happy now that it is all fixed and I'm thinking about purchasing another movement, not sure if that is wise or not? Just so whenever this one breaks down the road there will already be a back up for it. Maybe there will be something better down the road so maybe it would just be a waste to buy now and have to store? Anyhow, I'm glad it's finally fixed and working and I appreciate everyone's assistance on this board!
