HI, we have a 45 yr.old clock from my mother-in-law that I would like to set up. The prob is The Chain on the Left (as you look at it)is stuck all the way to the bottom. The Middle chain pulls, making the Right chain go up higher. I can't put the weights on,two of them would be on lying on the bottom of the clock. I did put a weight on the Right chain so Iwouldn't lose it all the way at the top. Does any of this make sense? This clock has just been sitting since we bought it home. Any suggestions??????????I don't know what to do. And please don't tell my mother-in-law!!!!!!!!

Post subject: Chain UPDATE- now no chime
ok I put on the weights and believe it or not its running. The left and middle are still resting at the bottom, but the Right weight is coming down! However, there are no chimes at all. THe pendulum is swinging and its keeping good time. What happen to the sound?

OK I've done some research. The left chain in the strike chain. Because it is still slack, resting on the clock floor,it's possible that is why there is no sound. Is this correct? Will that chain lift as the right weight drops?
A little advice would really help me out.
UPDATE:CLOCK HAS STOPPED> THe left chain never moved off the floor.!
I think I'll have to call someone.

That's probably your best move. Many clock shops have "Will travel" service in the event the clock is too large to practically transport, so keep that in mind when calling around. Best to entrust your investment to a professional if the assembly instructions you may have are insufficient. Fine clocks are a little too expensive to risk it, quite honestly.
your chains should be wound up by hand and the clock then runs down on its own under this power from gravity on the weights.
if the chain doesn't stay up and doesn't click when you pull them then the chain may have come off the sprockets that they hook on to operate the clock.

Post subject: chains stuck help
Thanks for the advice. I haven't figured out how to open the face up to see if the chains are on the sprokets. I'll probly bite the bullet and check into a professional visit. Thanks for your help
