Post subject: Clock not chiming correctly
Last year I purchased a Linden Chiming Mantle Clock on ebay. It is battery operted on one D battery. There is no volume control or chime control, but the clock automatically stops chiming at 10:45 pm and begins chiming again at 6:00 am. I can tell when to replace the battery because it would begin chiming occasionally during the night.
Now, however no matter how many times I have changed the battery it will sporadically chime during the night when it is not supposed to. What is the problem?

More than likely, the chimes have an automatic night silence feature. This means that the movement will automatically silence the chimes between "normal" sleeping hours (usually between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am). There may be a switch on the backside of the movement to de-select the night silence feature - however this is not always true with certain brand movements.
