I have owned a bought new Sligh Model 0976-1-AN floor standing grandfather clock for about 8 years. It has never stopped except for the few occasions that I let it unwind completely. Yesterday I noticed that it had stopped with the weights only ¼ the way down. I restarted it by moving the pendulum. It ran for about 30 minutes and stopped again. The clock has never had any maintenance performed on it. Any suggestions??

After 8 years, it is due for an oiling and/or a cleaning (at the very least). Typically, mechanical clock movements should be oiled every one to three years and cleaned every three to five years. Dust and grime build up over time and can inhibit the movement from running.

Thank you Chris. I have scheduled an oiling/cleaning for this week.
