Post subject: clock stopped
I have a bentime 8 day clock movement which I have taken out of an old case to put in a case I am making. Before I removed the movement from the old case the clock worked perfectly, now that it is out of the case the movement refuses to work. I have put the minute hand on turned it and the chimeing part works well, but when I spin the wheel at the top to make the clock go it spins for a few seconds then stops. I took special care taking out the movement so I cannot understand why it worked in the case but will not work out of the case, can anyone help.

the usual reason 99% clocks stop is because they need a service.
Especially if it hasn't been done for long time (excuse the pun).
Dirty?
sticky oil?
wear in pivots holes?
Weak mainsprings?
all these contribute to stopping a clock. after cleaning and oiling some also need adjustments to get it working better.
without actually looking at your mechanism no one will be able to tell you exactly how you can get it working.
we could tell you to oil it - but would you know where? how much? what oil?
very difficult over a forum.
the most likely reason f it was going before is it is out of beat - a common problem. Listen to the beat - it should be even both ways. Of course this is if its a pendulum mechanism.
if its a platform then you don't stand much chance yourself.
