I have a Colonial grandfather clock that was my inlaws. The chains on it were pulled all the way down and the weights that keep the pendulum moving from left to right are now all the way up. Now it doesnt work. The clock works if i move the pendulum but only when you push it manually. Does anyone know how to adjust this?

is the clock level? use a level and make sure it is level front to back, and side to side. If the clock is out of level it will eventually stop the pendulum swinging.

Other things to check are the suspension spring which the pendulum hangs from to make sure it is not bent or broken. Could also need a cleaning, and an oiling.
