hi all
i am curiouse as to whether or not a 1939's or 1940's tabour clock uses
a specific weighted pendlum or is it all that criticle, ive seen a whole lot of these as mix and match sets and am curiouse since i seem to have misplaced one for a customer. Embarassed

No. the length of the pendulum must be right to keep time. Weightis not critical.

I think exact weight is not critical, but if pendulum is too light the clock can run faster when mainspring is full loaded and will run slower while mainspring loses power. This depends on movement quality and type of escapement.

Most American mantel clocks from the turn of the century onward had pendulum bobs weighing perhaps two or three ounces. There were a few exceptions but most of them operated with similar weight.

The majority of the pendulums were very close in wieght the exception that clkwrx is talking about was primarliy but not always - Seth Thomas. Certain models- sonora chime and some had very heavy bobs.
