Post subject: custom clock hands?
I don't know anything about clocks but was hoping to make one for our workshop. I had the idea of making hands out of copper wire. Is that possible or not? After a bit of reading it seems the length and weight of the hands is pretty specific to the mechanism/movement. Should I give up that idea? Thanks.

For quartz movements, Klockit sources light-weight aluminum hands. I believe that mechaniocal hands are aluminum as well. Note that if the hands are too heavy, they may not rotate around the clock completely (and will stop somewhere between the 6 and 12 positions).
Any hands you make should be tested with the movement you intend to use. This way, you can ensure that there would not be problems (or make modifications to your hands to help them work better with your movement).
