Post subject: Electric grandfather clock movement
I have a ridgeway movement, model number 1161-053. I have been trying to get some kind of information on this movement for more than a month now but nobody seems to know anything about it. It has a synchronous electric motor that drives the 3 trains (strke, time & chime) It has 12 hammers (triple chime), auto night cutoff, and at the moment is driving a 10 inch 114cm pendulum and is keeping perfect time. It's not an auto-wind because it doesn't have cable barrels. Both howard Miller and Hermle deny any knowledge of it. Can anyone tell me what I have and/or where I can get some information on it

a picture of the clock movement would help. Hermle lists it as a chain drive movement.

I apologize for the mistake. The movement number is actually 1164-053 which appears to be a Hermle number, but, they claim that they didn't make the movement. I have yet to figure out how to load photos into this message. When I learn I'll load a couple of pictures.

If you can not import photos within a message (as I am unable to as well), you may consider sites (like Flickr) that allow you to post photos for free. You can always provide a link to that site within this forum.

This must be a modified movement that Ridgeway has built to their specs. A simple web search revealed that it is the only clock company to use the synchronous no wind system.

It's true that Ridgeway is the only company that uses the Auto-wind movement, but, my understanding is that Hermle is the only company that manufactures it. This movement is different from the Auto-wind because it doesn't wind the cables. This movement doesn't have any cables or winding barrells. Hermle lists the Auto-wind as 0115-N91161. However, if you go to http://www.clockco.co.nz/hermle.html you will find the 1164 listed as the only synchronous movement. Why Hermle claims that they didn't manufacture this one is a mystery to me.

You could contact Mark Butterworth he is a knowledgable US Hermle distributor.
