A friend of mine picked the clock up at an auction. It's an Emil Schmeckenbecher Montgomery Ward Exclusive by what the paper that came with it said. He'd like a little more information such as age, style, and possible value. Any help would be greatly appreciated. For images: http://s1099.photobucket.com/albums/g396/starbuck2012/

It seems, if I am correct, that Emil was commissioned to design a clock (or more - for all I know) for Montgomery Ward. Most "Schmeckenbecher/Ward" clocks I have seen over the net were originally marketed/sold around the early 70's.

I have not found a lot of value established to these types of retail chain clock exclusives, but also admit that I am no expert.

I admit that the fact stands that Schmeckenbecher's name is tied with the Black Forest region of Germany (which is widely known for producing ornately carved cuckoo clock assemblies for well over a century).

I must also admit that Montgomery Ward was well known for commissioning clock designs which they would have mass produced overseas with composite wood materials to increase sales potential by being able to offer something "up-scale" at a "down-scale" price. While they would bring in a prominent clock-maker for the design aspect, it was not always typical for the designer to be the actual "clock-builder".

I must admit that i didn't know that much about German clock makers but just started doing some research on the topic and on the country itself and have since become quite passionate and I found some interesting pieces of information here, they've been export world champions for quite a while now! I don't know if Schmeckenbecher still contributes to this but the Chinese are crazy about German cuckoo clocks... Their design is sort of shoddy but if it helps their economy then why not? Very Happy
