Emperor Grandfather Clock Chimes not working;

I have an 8 year old Emperor Grandfather clock. Recently the left and right weights stopped moving and the chimes don't work. The left weight appears to be overwound. Any suggestions on what to look for our how to repair would be greatly appreciated.

nine times out of ten people don't have the clock serviced until it stops.

I'm afraid there is no obvious answer unless you know exactly what you are looking for.

Usual problem is dirt in the mechanism. especially if it has been going ok then suddenly stops. this could also be wear sometimes.
