Clocks were manufactured under the Enfield name from 1932 until 1949. Although Enfield was taken over by Smiths as early as 1933, they continued to use the Enfield name for clocks manufactured by that division of the company. Enfield was considered to be a higher quality movement. After 1950 clocks were marked Smiths-Enfield. Smiths-Enfield ceased producing clocks entirely in 1979. If your clock only has the Enfield name on it then it was probably made before 1949. Also, bear in mind that there was little domestic clock production during the war years 1939-1945 (although they did produce materials for military use).

Thanks for your help.

My clock only got “Enfield” “Made in England” on the front, and on the back; “Made in England by the Enfield Clock Co” so I presume was made before 1948.
Knowing the serial number, how do you think I could find out the exact year of manufacture?
How is the quality of Enfield clocks?

Regards

If you could post a picture or email me one, then I will try to date this clock for you as I have an extensive library.

Hello all,

I am also new here! I found this Forum, through Google!

I am trying to date and value, an Enfield Clock! Please can anybody here, offer me some help?

Not knowing, a lot about Clocks! I am unsure if this Clock could be described as a, Granddaughter Clock or a Grandmother Clock! The Clock is a, free Floor standing item! Being about, 5 Foot, high!

The engraving on the mechanism, reads Enfield Clock Co, London! However, there is no name on the Clock Face!

I know that my Grandmother bought the Clock (in England), back in the 1930's! Also there is a Repair/Service Ticket, Cellotapted, inside the Back Door!

I would be grateful please, for any help or assistance!

Best wishes,

Andrew.
