Post subject: Enfield Mantle chime mechanism binds and stops the clock.
This problem appears only intermittently. The movement is out of the case and in my workshop, when I examine the stopped movement I find that the hour pipe/ snail cam is somehow jammed; a little wiggle and the chimes begin, I can then set the movement running again and all is well until it does it again at some point. Has anybody come across this particular problem before? I should say: it is an hour and half hour striker, no melody.

Worn bushings? Possibly but I think there is some problem with the hour pipe/snail cam, was hoping somebody else had come across this. I will be examining the bushings as best I can though, thanks Amrad.

i don't understand how a wiggle on the hour pipe can restart a chime?????
the only way this can happen maybe is due to a lot of play the bearings as amrad says.
