Hello,

I recently inherited a Ethan Allen grandfather Clock from my Grandmother. I had set up at my old house, then recently I moved it again to my new house. I set it up recently and this is what happend:

The clock is keeping time correctly, however, the weights are not all dropping. Only the middle wieght is dropping down, but the other two are not moving.

How can I fix this?

(Sorry if this is a re-post, did not find this problem when I searched)

If it has chains on the weights then these may be jammed in the mechanism.

if it is lines /wire then these may be tangled in the mechanism.

another suggestion is the mechanism is obviously jammed somewhere possibly behind the dial.

Clkfxr, thank you for your response. It does have chains. Where is the mechanism, and how can I access it to fix it? I am pretty handy and would like to try and save $$$ by fixing it myself if you know what I mean!
Thanks

you need to get th hood/top off. either slides forward or will hav a panel on the back that comes off.

at this stage u may see where it's jammed...if not continue...
mech will b sitting on a board. unscrew the nut holding the min hand and pull off th two hands. make a note of th position of min hand.
unpin and remove dial.
if u cannot get to the mech and see anything obvious then it's probable u need expert to sort it.

let me know how u get on.

I believe that the outer weights will not drop if your clock is set to silent. If that is the case you have nothing wrong with the clock.
