Post subject: F Mauthe mantle clock - Worth Restoring
Hi there,
Kindly help me to identify the year and also is it worth restoring this piece? back plate has F Mauthe, W 300 and 39930. All the 3 keys wound properly. One among the 5 chime rod is missing. Is it possible to find a matching chime rod?
Thanks & Regards,
Vijay
Near as I can find over the internet, F Mauthe company was in business between the late 1800's and 1970's (not certain how accurate this is). Your clock assembly seems to have a "retro" sort of feel that reminds me of the styles associated with the late 30's through the 50's (although I can not date this assembly with any certainty). From what I have seen over various auction sites, Mauthe clocks seem to be collectible (with some models being extrememly rare). Prices ranged between $200 - and $500 (American dollars) for starting bids alone on mantel and wall style clocks.
Despite all of this, I certainly think that it would be worth restoring.
