Post subject: FHS Mantle Clock
I have an FHS Germany mantle clock. I think it was made in 1969. What I was wondering about is whether or not I can move the hands forward to set the time. I have a grandfather clock, and the instructions for that require the hands to be moved backwards to set the time.
The FHS mantle clock plays the Westminster chime, as well as striking on the hour.
Thank you

I was always under the impression that it was bad to move hands backwards (bad for a mechanical movement, that is). I will readily admit that my mechanical movement experience is very general at best.

DO NOT MOVE THE HANDS BACKWARDS - NO NO NO !!!
move the hands forwards slowly and let it chime until it stops.
I don't know who gave you that bad advice for your grandfather (proper name = longcase clock) but taking the hands backwards will eventually stretch the lever behind the dial so it no longer strikes anymore.
the term 'grandfather' came from a nursery rythme many years ago.
