Post subject: FHS runs fast will not ajust
Hi all hope someone can help,
I am a new member to this forum. I have just taken an interest in old clocks and have been bitten by the bug . So far, I have repaired about six clocks after reading books and watching some DVDS. I have two clocks that are driving me mad both have balanced wheels one is a floating balanced wheel FHS 940-020 the other is French with no name.
The problems is the FHS runs fast I have stripped and cleaned it and have adjusted the balance wheel by turning the pointers back to the last punched out holes and it still runs fast, I have the diagram of the balance wheel and have followed the instructions for adjustment with no luck.
The second problem is this French clock, the clock has been striped and cleaned but runs slow even when the F-S adjusting lever is all the way over to fast (F)
Hope you can help Debbie

OK you can fill a couple of the holes on opposing sides of the balance with a little 5 min epoxy that will add weight which will slow the clock down if you want to do Gourmet work you can use silver solder put be very careful for the heat will hurt the hairspring, you can always file it down after if you use to much weight that should take care of the FHS.... the French clock will be a little different, first make sure the hairspring coils look free of each other if that's OK try and shorten the hairspring slightly by removing the pin and taking up some of the spring then you will of course have to make sure to put it back in beat with the fork this is tricky and you should consult a could book such as the "watch repairer's manual" by Henry Fried Fourth edition is the best book put hard to find..........
