Post subject: Gilbert Clock Discolor Face
Is it possible to "clean" a discolored face on a Gilbert Mantle Clock. I am looking at purchaseing an older Gilbert Mantle and the white face has some spots of discolor - Are these usually cleanable or does the face usually require replacement and if so how difficult is it to replace the face. Are they removable without touching the movement??

Post subject: discolored dial
Some Gilbert dials were printed on "glossy" card stock. Usually it's next to impossible to clean them without further damage or fading. Replacement paper dials are available from suppliers. These replacements are applied over top of the original dial using spray adhesive and then trimmed to fit. Some collectors opt to keep the original dials 'as is' complete with imperfections feeling that it adds to the age and authenticity. It all boils down to personal preference.
