I have a Grandfather Clock with Hermle movement. It is chain driven with the weights. I re-wind it every Sunday morning and it works fine. Of course it loses a few seconds during the winding which I adjust as needed. In trying to make it as accurate as possible, I've noticed that if I give the pendulum a boost after the winding, I find that it gains a few seconds for the first few days of the week, then it comes in right on at the end of the week. I get around the issue by NOT giving the pendulum a boost after winding. I am curious as to why this happens.

Anybody have the answer?

first of all you do not want to give the pendulum a boost as you call it, as you put undue wear on the thin spring that the pendulum swings from.

I would not worry about it losing or gaining a few seconds, this is just the nature of a mechanical clock. It does become an issue when seconds turns into minutes.

I'm not worried about the accuracy anymore, seems to be great now. Since this was the main problem I encountered making my accuracy adjustments, I was just curious as to why.
