Post subject: Grandfather clock keeps "stalling"
Hi all:
I have a Abel Cotty grandfather clock by New England Clocks, about 30 or so years old. It used to work, then I stopped winding it; it's been inactive for about 10 years.
I tried to restart it and found the suspension spring broke; I got a new one and installed it, now it ticks. I [stupidly] moved the minute hand forward several hours to correct the time, and now it keeps "stalling" - I swing the pendulum to restart it; it ticks for a few minutes, then stops. I noticed that the minute hand is kind of "stuck", so I figured I better ask before doing more damage.
Any suggestions? BTW, I did level it in both directions.
Thanks in advance.

If it has been sitting idle for 10yrs, it will most likely need an oiling and definitely a cleaning. best to bring it to a clock doc. Is the clock level, if it is not it will stall.

a 40 year old clock will need a service.
would you expect your car to go for 40 years without a service?
