Post subject: grandfather dial height
is there a standard height for the grandfather dial/face height. if none what is the best height.

It all depends on the clock movement you are using, i.e. pendulum length, weight travel, etc..

"Standard" height for moving moon Grandfather style clock faces will be about 15-1/2". Standard width will be about 11". Keep in mind that these dimensions can vary by about 1/8", but typically no more than that.
As a side note, this would not encompass "low arch" dials for Grandfather style movements, nor would it include moving moon dials designed to fit Grandmother style movements. As "abets" had stated, it does all depend on the movement being used.
