Post subject: Grandmother not chiming
I have assembled a grandmother clock purchased 25 years ago.
My question is how to get her to chime?
I have oiled the movement, the pendulum is swinging, and the chime silencer lever is set to chime.
I'm to the point where I've put only the hour hand on and when I 'dial' the hand I can hear a click every 15 minutes, but no chime.
The movement is Hermle 85 Black Forest Clock 451-050H
Any help is appreciated!!

Have you made adjustments to the chime hammers so that they will properly strike the rods? Typically, the chime hammers will require to be bent so that they are gapped about 1/6" - 1/8" from the rods. Hermle movements are not set up to accomodate any specific case assembly, and adjustments are usually required. Perhaps the current hammer gap is too large (so that they do not strike the rods)? You can also check to see if the hammers even move when you rotate the minute hand to a chiming position. If the hammers are not moving when the movement clicks over to chime, then there may be something else that needs to be looked into.

Still clueless on why this isn't chiming. I've waited 25 years to assemble the clock, I will wait another year or two until my dog dies. What??? When it does get around to chiming, it will sound exactly like my front door bell, which starts my Great Dane barking.
Thanks for your response and a possible solution!

If the top of the clock lifts off, maybe you can watch the clock strike to see what might be wrong.
