Hey everyone!
I am new to this forum but I wanted to get our site out there. We have opened a new site called http://www.GrandTickTock.com and we are selling grandfather clocks and cuckoo clocks. We even have a feature to create your own customized clock. Please check it out and send us feedback on what you like or dislike!

I would bet that these clock cases (and movements) are fabricated in the Orient. The Orient is a predominant user of woods such as Linden and Catalpa (which is a dead give-away).

These types of Grandfather clock assemblies have been sold previously at National US retailers such as K-mart and Wal-Mart at similar price offerings (around the $150 - $200 mark). They typically come packaged pre-finished, with very little assembly involved. The model I reviewed (purchased from Wal-Mart) involved 8 machine screws for the entire assembly.

To be honest, I was not very happy with the finished assembly (when all was said and done). The faux finish of the case did not highlight the actual wood underneath. It was more of a overlay finish made to resemble actual North American hardwood in a stained and finished state. When compared to a solid, hardwood clock case and quality German mechanical movement, my assembly just did not stack up (fully understanding that it was a low-cost, budget alternative for expensive assemblies as sold by Howard Miller, Emperor Clock Company, etc.).

While there were numerous other quality issues prior (with the wood and movement), hopefully there have been some revisions/alterations to correct and improve these issues since I had last assembled mine.

I don't see how you can get a decent solid wood grandfather clock for around $200. The seller, and mfg can't be making too much profit on them after you factor in labor and shipping costs.
