Post subject: hd1688 sheng bang
My wife has a Shannon crystal pendulum clock with the hd1688 sheng bang. We have changed the AA battery twice in the last two days but the mechanism seems not to work.
Is there something else that needs to be done to activate the movement?

What does the mechanisim do (or not do)? Do the hands move at all? Do you hear a ticking sound after battery insertion?
Sheng Bang offers an RC version of this movement (which would recieve an AM radio signal to automatically update the time). If you have the RC version, there may be more to activating your clock than just installing the battery. Generally, the clock may need to recieve the radio signal and self-adjust to the current time. Up until then, the hands may perform erratically (i.e. fast spinning of the hands, or double-stepping of the second hand, etc).
If you have the standard quartz version, you should only have to insert the battery to get things running. From that point, you would use the time set knob in the back to set the current time.
No matter which movement version you have, note that quartz (battery) movements are not made to last forever. Generally quartz motor life-span averages about 6 -10 years (on average - results do vary). Luckily, quartz movements are pretty versitile and rather inexpensive, so a replacement option should not be hard to find if the movement has quit on you.
