I inherited this clock from my Grandmother, but no one knows very much about it. I have several photos but am not sure how to make them available. I'll try this - please let me know if it works!

On the back it is stamped G. Sch. and Made in Germany in red ink. It is also stamped with the name of the shop where I believe my Grandfather purchased it - Hobby Clock Shop N. 5 Browne St Spokane 8, Wash. under which is a small pencil mark C50. Inside the back cover is what appears to be serial numbers and perhaps the maker's name though that is difficult to read - all hand written. The last part of what may be a name looks like Warntce? Under which are the numbers 5277230. The first 7 in that series looks like it was first written as a 6, then written over to be a 7. Under that is another series of numbers/letters 1227763548AFM. The back of the works is stamped G.K.

What you have is a Hunter Style Cuckoo Clock (definately mechanical). Looks as though the deer is missing an ear, but a little bit of wood glue should fix the problem if you still have the piece. Feel free to click the link below to search "Hunter Style Cuckoo Clock" and see many various examples of this style of clock.

While there are many current reproductions and "take offs" of this style of clock, I could not tell you who was the specific company of origin. I am not even certain there is any certain manufacturer (as the cuckoo assembly derived from people beating the harsh German winters by hunkering in and making clocks in their cabins). Predominantly, most carved, wooden cuckoo clocks came from the Black Forrest region in Germany (and still do today). A brief history:

Thanks for the links Chris! Yes, I do have the ear and intend to have it glued back, along with the antler on that side. Most of the antler tips appear to have been broken off at some point and filed smooth, but otherwise no damage. I had looked on the internet quite a lot and saw other hunter style clocks, but not one just like this. Again, thank you for your reply!
