Post subject: help identifying a cuckoo clock
Hi
I read the history of the cuckoo clock from www.salemclock.com. It was very interesting.
I bought a clock today which looks to be quite old. There are no markings on the clock mechanism at all, the back of the clock case is marked DRGM OZ65, and was burned into the wood. The clock case wood is thicker than other ones I have seen, at about three eighths of an inch. The hole for the door for the cuckoo seems to be hand sawn, and there is one cuckoo bird. The clock dial is wood, and there are two hand carved figures of a man and woman on the front of the clock.
The clock is about a foot high, and about 8 inches wide. The figures are about four inches high.
Can anyone give me an idea of the age and value of this clock, or can you give me an idea of how to further research this.
Thnak you for any help.

Post subject: I think I have the same clock
hudsoncuckoo,
I joined this site to research a clock I just acquired. When I read your post, it seems we both may have the identical clock. The markings on mine are identical and your description fits mine.
What I've leaned about mine, so far, is that DRGM is a German utility patent designation. It was used from about 1891-1945. It stands for Deutsches Reichsgebrauchsmuster (German Reich Registered Design) You'll often see it printed as Deutsches Reich Gebrauchsmuster, but I've leaned that this is grammatically incorrect. I'll take a picture of it and post it here. Possibly you could do the same? If it would be more convenient, my email address is: guyjulie@pacbell.net. We could exchange some photos that way as well. I'll see if I can post a picture tomorrow.

Say, that old fella isn't flippin' his Frau off .............. naw, he CAN'T be doing that!!
That's a nice old two weight cuckoo clock you have, I would take a Q-tip with some matching stain and touch up that little scuff on the front. It would make it look a lot better! I can't add a single word to helping you with anything more about your find though, I just couldn't pass up that apparent gesture from the old cuckoo meister!! Sorry if I offended.

Post subject: You, and everyone else
EVERYONE who see's this clock says the same thing. It's not until you get close that you see the gent is actually using his forefinger to give a 'come here' gesture to the little lady. By her reaction, it's easy to see it either way. Kind of a 'glass half full or half empty' thing. I did go over that light mark as you suggested and it cleaned right up. It was more obvious in the photo than in person, but it helped.
