Hello! I'm a newbie to wall clocks and am needing some help in identifying one. My grandparents died and while cleaning out their basement I found this clock. It looks old but I have no idea how old it is or who makes it. The pendulum has an RA on it but I don't know what that means. I couldn't find any marking to identify the manufacturer either. On the back of the clock there are 2 crossed arrows with the word orginal underneath. Pics are below. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

While I can not tell you the manufacturer of the clock case (or movement), I can tell you what the "R/A" stands for. "R/A" (loosely translated) stands for "Retard/Advance" (or possibly retarder/accelerator, etc). There are several interpretations out there, but they ultimately all mean the same thing: Slow/Fast. It describes that the pendulum of the movement can be adjusted to affect the speed of the movement. The movement can be slowed down (retard/retarder) or sped up (advance/accelerator). This is accomplished with either raising or lowering the pendulum bob by turning the nut located underneath the bob.

i think definately German and called a regulator.

if you remove the pendulum and unscrew the two seatboard screws the movement will slide out forward with dial complete. then you may see a maufacturers mark on the back plate. probably made around 1920 - 1950's.

The crossed arrows is HAC, HAC was bought out later by Junghans so it may be a early Junghans as well.Perhaps before 1920 or earlier.
