Dear experts and just everyone who likes antique clocks.

I have this wheel or a gear with the two suns or moons, ship and a house with ruins and chubby gentleman with a shadow. I am pretty sure that this is from an antique clock but which one and what year? Also I wonder what it is made of, iron, brass? It seems that the metal is gray that means not brass for sure.

I am keeping this gear for my collection but it would be nice to know the value of this interesting thing. Any ideas?

Thank you everyone for information!

What you have appears to be an old moving moon gear from a clock face. Traditionally, these types of clock faces were used on Floor clocks (such as grandmother and gradfather clocks), however it is not uncommon for them to be used on smaller clock faces as well (for mantel and wall clocks). The gear actually illustrates two moons, and rotates based upon the 29-1/2 day lunar cycle. When viewed through the upper arched opening of the clock face, the amount of visible moon showing would inidicate the current moon phase.

Without the rest of the clock face, or even the clock case which the dial originated from, it may be hard to place a date on this object. Typically, moon gears do not have any sort of manufacturer information. In many cases, the actual dial (clock face) will not hold any manufacturer information either (although some companies would apply a name or logo of the distributer who would be selling the clock). In most cases, identification is best achieved by referencing the clock case and/or clock movement. All that being said, please understand that there are forum patrons far more experienced than I am. Keep checking back for other posts which may help to shed more light.
