Hey, Guys and thanks for the invite. I've come into possession of what looks to be an antique clock with a handmade movement. I've set the movement up an it does work, but the action at the escapement wheel if very weak and the pendulum eventually stops after about five minutes or so. Everything seems to be in place with the movement and the chiming side works too.

My task/goal is to simply put it back together and get her ticking again. So in order to get this party started, can anyone tell me anything about it?

All the best, Don

They pendulum is a hand-beaten assembly and it's parts are loose with age. The back of the clock face looks like it has some kind of tar and gravel on it? The weights are lumps pulling on cotton string.

Don,
I am not an expert but I have been around a few that were and i believe the clock was not made by one of the standard Companies because there does not appear to be a name or model # on it. I have not seen that pattern on the hands either, but that does not mean much either.
It probably needs taken apart and cleaned and oiled.
It is not going to worth a fortune because of it's lack of identity so you can clean it up and restore as much as you want without damaging the value.
Nice Find tho.
Regards
Joe

It's possibly what's called a 'lantern' movement and if it is a genuine lantern they were made around the 16oo's onwards.
being in a wooden case possibly dates it later as earlier ones hung on the wall or brackets.

From the pictures 7,8 and 9 from the top i see the center hanging rod is not positioned correctly - it should be in the center of the movement not to one side.
