Post subject: help with pallet adjustment
I have just started out in clock restoration and am working on a 1930s Garrard of London mantle clock. One problem I have is that the screws holding the pallet spindle to the clock are loose, there is also an adjuster screw to vary the height of the pallet above the escape wheenl. How do i know if the pallet is the right height above the escape wheel before I tighten the clamping screws up?

let the escape wheel go from pallet face to face as you move the pallets from side to side. lower the pallets so this happens without jamming and you have the maximum depth which should give you the best pendulum action too.
