I have posted twice about a chain sprocket and have had over 30 views but no answers. I am afraid my lack of knowledge about cuckoo clocks maybe interfering with my question. Maybe I am not describing the part correctly. Sorry for my confusion but the piece has a black chain sprocket and a metal gear. The gear connects to the music gear and the weight hangs off the chain on the sprocket but that sprocket spins freely. Again sorry about my lack of knowledge.

I apologize that you have not recieved a response. I wish I could be of assistance, but I also lack knowledge in regard to cuckoos. I do, however, urge you to keep checking back here from time to time.

You may also wish to consider posting on the NAWCC. They have been around longer than our modest forum, and there are many more members. Once on the site, click on "message boards" on the left side of the screen. There may even be existing articles (topics) which might adress this problem.

The sprocket should not spin freely. It should move the gear as the weight pulls it down. The sprocket should click and lock as the chain is pulled to bring the weight up to wind the clock.

greetings, there is a steel or brass finger with a sharp point that fits into the ratchet wheel, behind the finger is a spring to provide tension on the finger so it will fit into the teeth of the ratchet wheel if the spring is broken or missing the sprocket will run free that is the problem. you either have to replace the small spring or buy a new sprocket. eddie
