Post subject: Hermle 341-020 stopping
I am new to the forum and am beginning clock repair. I have a Hermle 341-020, 45cm that I have cleaned and oiled. I followed the instructions from a DVD about these movements. I have adjusted the beat but the movement won't remain beating. (This movement did not run before. It came from a clock that I replaced the movement with a refurbished one.) All parts look to be clean and I feel fairly confident that I put everything back in the right order when I put the movment back together. Any ideas?

How old is this clock movement?
There is a letter on the back plate but on the early ones two numbers to indicate date.
Hermle will wear on the 1st, 3rd and 4th wheel holes usually so look for excessive wear here. Early Hermle will also have worn barrels holes.

There is an 84 on the back of the movement. I assume it means produced in 1984. Is that right? When I disassembled the movement, I checked for worn pivot holes. They all seemed okay. The barrel holes seem firm also. The arbor that holds the pallet seemed loose and the pallet was slipping on the escape wheel so I changed it with another movement that I have acquired. It stopping slipping and the clock will beat for about 30 seconds. How do I check the wheel holes. I will take the movement down again if I need. This a learning project for me. Thanks for the help!

Shake the wheel arbors side-to-side to see how much wear is there.
An oval shaped hole or one that has too much play will bushing.

Post subject: Continuing work on the Hermle 341-020
I have unable to work on the movement until this weekend. I have done as you suggested but found no extreme play. I took the movement down again, cleaned the movement with a solution from Timesavers, put it back together, and oiled it. I have started the movement. It runs without stopping but the pendulum moves in a very small range. I have one of these movements working in a clock but the pendulum range is much farther. Suggestions? What haven't I done?

Post subject: pendulum swing
I recently had a similar problem with a 241-070 movement that I disassembled. cleaned and bushed. I discovered that I had not marked the location of the suspension post bracket at disassembly. The bracket plate also had the rear pivot hole for the pallet arbor made into it. I had to play with the adjustment of the bracket up and down until I found the correct depth of engagement of the verge into the escape wheel.
Hope this helps. Ron

Thanks. I took the bracket plate off and slightly readjusted it when I returned it. The pendulum swings correctly now and it is keeping excellent time. Now I am working on the chiming timing. This is new for me and I am gaining knowledge everytime I work on it . I appreciate everyone's help.
