Post subject: Hermle 341-021a chimes
I have a wall clock with the Hermle 341-021a where the chimes do not work reliably. The clock itself keeps good time.
If I just leave the clock it will chime the occasional hour (correctly), then the quarter hour chimes but only within that hour, Then it will go quiet for a few hours then begin to chime again (perhaps 3-5 hours later) but again only within the hour, and not always each quarter hour. It appears to have some problem resetting itself on the hour.
As the clock goes through the quarter hours, there is a definite click/tap from a large arm towards the top front of the mechanism (sorry no idea what it is!). It's the same arm that moves when you get the louder click when the minute arm is moved back 10m to reset the quarter hour sequence.
I've also found that if I manually advance the minute hand by 15m, go through the hour and the hour chime does not start, by resetting at that point and again advancing through the hour, it will chime the correct number of hours, followed by the 3 x 1/4 hour chimes only for the following top of the hour to not work again. By resetting it each hour, the correct cycle begins until the next top of the hour.
I've done this for each hour in turn and the hour chime count and the quarter hour melody are always correct, but only with the manual reset on the hour.
Does this sound like something that can be reset by myself or is it a repair shop job?
thanks
