Post subject: Hour will not chime
Hello All,
I am new at the clock thing so I hope you can help.
I have an Ethan Allen GF clock that was purchased orginally by my parents in 1984. It has been moved several times and has always worked well. I had the clock for about six months about 1 year ago and then it was moved. While I had it it worked perfectly, the time was slightly fast but with some small pendulum adjustments it was keeping great time. I am not sure if it was running for the year I didn't have it.
Anyway to my question. I just got the clock back. I had to move it from FL to NC. The clock keeps PERFECT time just like when I had it before. it also chimes on the quarter hour with no issues. It doesn't chime the hour though and the left weight doesn't move at all. I have put the weights on as they are marked looking at the clock. I have done some reading on here about a lock or a stop for this but I don't know where that is located.
Is there something I should take a look for? Do I need to remove the face of the clock in order to get a better look at it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Move the minute hand forward to the hour. as the chimes are chiming, pull down slightly on the left weight and see if it will start striking the hour. Sounds like the left chain is jammed somehow. Pulling down may un-jam it.

Thank you for the response.
Unfortunitely this did nothing. It doesn't seem like there is any activation at all to chime the hour. I hope that makes sense.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

If you can remove the door on the left top side of the clock, you should be able to see the movement. The hour strike is activated by the chime train which is on the right side. A lever should drop while the 16 note hour chime is working. The lever has 12 teeth which counts the hour strike. If you can locate the lever, you may be able to see why it is not dropping. You can also put slight pressure on the wheels on the left side and try to make them turn. Something must be jammed in the left side strike train. Another thing to check is the hammers on the left side. See if they will move by hand. A shipping lever, which stops the hammers, could have been activated when you moved it. Also inspect the chain or cable which holds the left weight. Chains sometime get jammed in the sprocket when a clock is moved
