I hate to sound like a true bonafide idiot, but I can't seem to find out about my clock. It was given to me by a friend, and unfortunately he passed on before I could learn anything about it. It says 'Sterling and Sons Ltd' on the face. Is that the maker? If so, I've never heard of them. Where else do I look besides the face? Thanks, all, for any information. Have a lovely day!

the name on the dial is often NOT the maker but the retailer.

Look on the rear of the mechanism - the back plate.
May be the name of the maker is there?
Sometimes just letters or a symbol or design that represents the company who made it.
